Never Say Never Part 2

If I’ve learned anything recently, I’ve learned that “never” shouldn’t be in my vocabulary when I make decisions. I have had to eat my words many times…

And here we are again!

Another Move

We are moving houses at camp!

We have been back and forth about it for a few months. The moving process is hard, but we have decided it will be worth it. And the boys are so excited now. They started packing the moment we found out it was official.

The house has 5 bedrooms and is on about an acre of land. It’s a bit off camp property (not far). It’s NOT at the front gate (which is where our home is currently located). It also has air conditioning. It has a wood-burning stove which is fun. The living area is all open. I don’t love that we currently have a wall between the kitchen and living room. The kitchen is small, but the counter space is more usable than our current set up.

We actually really love our current house, so it was a hard decision. Our current bathroom and master bedroom are so much better than the new one will be. Our current basement living room is bigger than the new one will be. But we think it’ll be worth it!

We have been doing a lot of painting and repairs on the new house. The plan is to move as quickly as possible because I hate being in limbo. I’d love to celebrate Christmas in our new home.

And now that I’ll have an acre of land, I plan to make all of my homesteading dreams come true.

The house that we currently live in made all of that difficult. It was not set up for chickens or gardening or any of that. And I thought I didn’t want that anymore. Part of that was because we had just moved states (with a very different climate), and I was overwhelmed. I was also overwhelmed with Karis going to college and there was a lot going on with the boys. I also had to learn how to manage life while also working part time. This year has been very up and down with my mental health as usual, but I’m feeling a little more settled. I will be careful to make sure anything I do can be taken care of even when I’m struggling… because I know it will still happen.

But an acre is a lot to utilize! And Robert knew that if we decided to move, I would want to do that! I’m so excited!!

This is why I have learned to “never say never.” The thing I plan to say moving forward is “not right now.” This applies to homeschooling as well since we are back to that!

I created a “Colorado Homesteading” board on Pinterest, and I have found so much good info about homesteading in our climate. I plan to take it slow… one step at a time. The winter will involve a lot of planning and preparation.

Our New Home and Land

We are still working on home projects, but this is how it looks so far!

“Before” Pics

We still need to finish putting the kitchen back together after painting the cabinets. We will have to redo them sooner than I would like as the paint we used wasn’t the greatest. I also needed to sand them down but didn’t realize until after… but it’ll work for now.

The main reason we even painted them is because the previous paint was peeling off as well.

We will be putting new flooring in the kitchen/dining room because Robert accidentally spilled a whole thing of paint in the dining room. That was unexpected, but it’s going to look really nice!

This is the flooring that we bought (on clearance!):

Here are some pics of the rest of the house (not all of the pics that I have):

I took these pictures Monday after some fresh snow:

Life Lately

There are some things that have continued to be difficult, but I have been trying to focus on the good that is going on.

I just thought I’d share some pics!

Lots of baking, game playing, Christmas music, coffee, reading, a bit of nature walking, and just trying to enjoy the season!
