Life

endofsummer...beginningoffall

I rarely write anymore, but every once in a while, I get the desire to blog.  So here I am :-).

This is my last week at home before I go on “vacation” to my parents’ house, then leave the kids to come back and start training.

I have truly been enjoying summer break lately, and we have had many lazy days.  We spend half the day doing nothing, then the other half having fun (playing outside, swimming, going to movies, etc).  This morning is another one of those lazy days.  We are currently just playing and watching tv.  I love it.

But this afternoon, things are going to start getting busy.  We will be cleaning the house.  Tomorrow we have some plans, Thursday we are going to the Aboretum, and Friday we will be preparing to go to my parents’.  Not much laziness left in the summer!

It’s almost surreal that school is about to start.  On one hand, I’m sooooooo ready.  I have been working and prepping for school for the past month.  I’m ready to meet my students and put everything into practice that I have been working so hard on.  I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to teach again and feel that God’s hand is/was all over it.

On the other hand, I’m not ready for the lazy days of summer to be over with!  I’ve never in my life allowed myself to be lazy without feeling guilty so this has been nice!

Ready or not, it’s coming soon!

The lazy summer has created one negative thing… I have gained about 15 pounds.  What I could wear to work last year doesn’t really fit me anymore.  Starting next week, I’ll be getting up at 5:00 again, will have my time with Jesus, and will start running every week day.  I need to be active again.  It’s just been hard to do because I didn’t have to get up early, and I didn’t force myself.  Being forced into a routine will help my movement AND my food intake.

I have struggled with balance my whole life in the area of health and things are no different now… well, things are somewhat better… but I have been eating more unhealthy foods this summer (hence the 15 pound weight gain).  My goal (and one that I’ve been doing pretty well with in the past few weeks) is to eat mostly whole foods, but be okay with the occasional processed food.  This is the balance that I have searched for my whole life pretty much.  And I buy organic and/or local when it makes sense financially.  I ordered some organic/local foods for less money than I would spend in the store… I plan on continuing this!  I am a part of a co-op in Prosper that sells local raw milk, veggie/fruit shares, yogurt, and eggs.  I bought 3 gallons raw milk, a dozen eggs, and a produce share for $37!  I couldn’t do that well at Aldi!  I’m looking forward to continuing this purchase.  And since the co-op is in Prosper (where I work), it won’t be out of my way!

I’m also looking forward to fall!  Fall is my absolute favorite time of year!  I can smell the pumpkin spice scent already and see the beautiful colors of autumn.  Yay!

Alright… now that I’ve shown my complete nerdiness, I will stop!
